Outdoor Living Photography

Pool Construction

More and more, outdoor living spaces, high-end landscaping and spa and pool construction are becoming more important to Utahns. And FORM Pools and Spas is positioned as a leader in this area of construction, and they take pride in their work. I was called in to help show off their incredible work, and I could not be happier.

They approach each job with a top-to-bottom methodology. The not only put in top-on-the-line pools and spas, but they landscape, add lighting, work on paths and do so much more to make the outdoor spaces not just usable, but a place you really want to spend time. Their work, in a word, is breathtaking. And that is what I am here to show off.

Pool Construction

Our goal here is multi-use images. The primary thing we need to do is create striking images. Each of these will be on social media, so we need to create interest. With these incredible homes, that made my job easy.

To really show off the pool construction, we decided to shoot everything in the evening. That is harder, but it yields incredible images. Striking images. The images this client needs. And with winter approaching, we had to work fast… many consecutive evening shoots in a row. But we got what was needed.

Furniture Photography

Furniture Photography

Doing furniture photography is some of the biggest product photography we do. Well, outside of buildings and aircraft, I guess. These were shot at the manufacturer’s location. They have a good area for us to shoot, and we bring in backing panels so we can get clean pulls of the furniture.

Goals for the Furniture Photography

the first major objective here is to introduce no distortion. Lines need to be straight, and we don’t want any curves from wide angle lenses. So we set up fairly far back from these pieces to eliminate distortion. True color is also very important, so we chip chart each image to perfectly match each color.

With this job, sinmce the images would not only be used for the client’s website, but also for their customers websites, too, we had to not just shoot on white, but also trim each image over transparent backgrounds for inclusion in other set ups.

360 Tour

Rentals 360 Tour

More and more companies are looking to 360 tour to sell and promote their properties and their products. Realtors have long used 3D tours like Matterport for residential property tours (and yes, we do those!). But commercial needs are much different. You may need the tour long-term on your website… something Matterport is not ideal for. Or you may need to show off a product in detail to your clients half a world away. Or you may want to take a 3D video tour around your office. We can do (and have done) all of these and more.

For us, the most important part is to listen to what you need to accomplish. When it comes to 3D 360 tours, one size does NOT fit all. And we have a variety of different approaches to make this happen for you.

Different Types of 360 Tour

In this case, we had a property owner who rents apartments in this home (which is also a state historical site). He wanted a walk around the entire property, so he could use it whenever any of the apartments were available. he needed to host it himself, rather than host on Matterport. He also did not need super high quality, but just to get a feeling for the property.

So this is the tour we made for him. It was reasonable in cost, small for quick loading, and was a tour he now owns, and can use when he needs to.

Jet Aircraft Photography

Jet Aircraft Photography

We have been shooting a lot of private and commercial jet aircraft photography for Duncan Aviation in Provo, Utah. This Bombardier Global 6000 is one of the biggest private business jets, and is in fact used by some airlines for short hops with passengers. This instance though is a private ownership. With a range of over 6,000 miles, and a top speed of Mach 0.89, this plane will get its occupants where they need to go quickly, and in style.

Goals for Jet Aircraft Photography

When we shoot images of jet aircraft, we need out images to show the plane in pin-sharp focus. We need to show the whole area, and all the amenities. Lighting must be perfect, with no shadows or dark spots. And most importantly, colors need to be spot on.

The cockpit needs to have all the instruments showing, clear and bright. We want to show off all the electronics, all the upgrades, and all the plush upholstery.

Avenues Apartment Construction

Avenues Apartment Construction

For these images of apartment construction in the Salt Lake Avenues, we needed to document the refurbishment of an existing property. This apartment building had been competely gutted then updated and renovated.

We had to provide images while contruction was going on, so when the proeprty was finisghed, ads would be ready to go.

We worked with the owners and the conmtractor so we could have finished areas within the ongoing work project. A staging company provided the furnishings for the shoot day.

Concerns during Apartment Construction

Our main concern during Apartment Construction is to not interfere with thew ongoing work. We must also get access to a part of the prooperty that is finished, or nearly finished, so none of the apartment construction is shown. Some of this is based on creative camera angles, and some is based on working with the contruction crews- some rooms are always ahead of others, and can make good models.

We can work with you to get stagers to bring in furnishings in a style you want… or shoot empty rooms and stage virtually. In this project, we used actual furnishings.

Aviation Imagery

Gulfstream Jet Photography

This was a wonderful assignment to just go wild on. My client, Duncan Aviation, designed and executed a complicated paint job for their client on this Gulfstream G-550. Both groups wanted Jet Photography to show off the work. The jet was literally a day out of the paint shop, and I had all the resources I needed to realize any picture on the tarmac I wanted to go after.

This corporate jet is a Gulfstream G-550. Over 600 G-550s built by General Dynamics’ Gulfstream Aerospace unit in Savannah, Georgia. Eventually this aircraft saw replacement by the Gulfstream G600 in October of 2019. The G550 remained kept in limited production for long-term special missions applications and government orders.

Goals of the Jet Photography

My instructions were to show off the paint. Specifically the wonderful paint blending on both the tail, and the way the paints blend around the cockpit. I also shot a variety of full views of the jet for a variety of angles to document the plane as a whole, something we do in all our Airplane Photography in Utah

As a favor to the client, I also shot a portrait of the paint lead who pulled off this amazing feat of aircraft painting standing in front of his work. I wanted something strong and striking, and I think the portrait worked quite well showing off the man and his work.

The final part of this assignment was a series of tight shots of the jet aircraft. We wanted abstract, arty sorts of shots that just looked cool, but did not necessarily show off anything specific. The angles and the curves of the jet all made for interesting crops and images.

All tolled in this project, I delivered 60 final images to the client. The Gulfstream Jet Photography was delivered within a week of the original shoot, and clients were very happy with the results.

University of Utah Hospital Displays

University of Utah Hospital Displays

The focus of this assignment was the University of Utah Hospital Displays. Client Loop Screen builds and distributes the displays, and needed images of their work in use at the University of Utah Hospital, and at the clinic in Sugarhouse.

Obviously, part of the directive included not showing recognizable patients for privacy reasons. We also wanted to show the client’s displays in the best light possible. We made the screens the primary focus of the images, or the part of the image that draws the eye first.

University of Utah Hospital Displays

To further our photographic goals, and to have as little impact on the University of Utah Hospital normal business, we shot this on a Saturday. We requested and received permission from the University of Utah, so all work was done with the knowledge and permission of the University. We perused permission and releases from all people in the images.

Because the website is still being build, we did not have exact lists of images needed. We shout a variety of images for the client Loop Screen. We shot the images in both horizontal and vertical orientations, for a variety of uses. Screens- the focus of all this!- are shot tight and wide, to emphasize both the product itself and the environments in which they are used.

If you need images of your project, product or work-site, please let us know. We can shoot the images, or manage the whole project. From hiring models to securing permission, this is what we do. Twilight Exterior- The Grand Assisted Living Center

Assisted Living Center Photography

We perform a lot of Assisted Living Center Photography, and this is one of our most recent examples of what we do for Utah’s Senior Living Community Centers. The Grand Assisted Living Center is a brand-new, luxurious assisted care facility in Holladay Utah.

Our goal here was to show the luxury and openness of the facility. We needed to shoot the main common areas for use in brochures and on the website. For future use, we needed to shoot the whole property, including every single residence room. This resulted in a final delivery of over 200 images.

This shoot took two days for this Assisted Living Center Photography shoot. A third day (well, a morning!) was used to shoot twilight exteriors.

Assisted Living Center Photography

When we do our Senior Living Community photography, we recognize the limitations we need to work within. We are invading peoples homes; people who may not like disturbances. We need to be as minimally invasive as possible. Our crew take care with our interactions, and work slowly and methodically so as to disturb as little as possible. We will work with you to shoot at off-time hours. We can shoot around meal times, so as to affect the normal course of business as little as possible. Ultimately, you let us know what YOU need, and we will make it happen.

Illumin8 Skin Care

Website Images

Brief was to create a variety of images for the website of a new company that specializes in skin care. We took this to shoot a variety of things, including store space, location exteriors, employee head shots, wide (not specific) product shots, and demo shots of each of their treatments.

Models were used for images featuring laser treatment, botox, and all the other assorted treatments.

Actual employees were used performing the treatments.

Industrial Product Photography

Industrial Products

This Industrial Products shoot featured a fully working install of an air filtration system for industrial construction by US Air Filtration Inc. The brief included getting all angles available, as well as drone images of units in situ. Images for use in promotional materials, web imaging and print materials.

Install was at Lifetime Products in the Freeport Center. The center is a manufacturing, warehousing, and distribution center located in Clearfield, Utah. It was originally built in 1942 as the Clearfield Naval Supply Depot, which was decommissioned in 1962. The 680-acre center consists of 78 buildings, totaling more than 7,000,000 square feet.
